We welcome enquiries about particular artefacts in our collections which you may have seen in a publication or at the Museum, or which you may have missed on a visit; alternatively you may have a comment or additional information about something you have seen on our website? If your enquiry falls into one of these categories, please contact us at rmgenquiries@rmg.co.uk. We aim to reply within 20 working days from the date of receipt.
Please note that due to current staff shortages we may not be able to answer enquiries on the following subjects for the time being: uniforms, furniture, decorative arts and textiles, objets d’art, antiquities, ceramics, ethnographic artefacts, figureheads, flags, heraldry, jewellery, medals, coins, and craftwork.
Due to limited resources and the high number of enquiries we receive we are unable to respond to general enquiries about maritime or astronomical history, or about privately owned objects, but we have created a number of research guides around popular subjects, which may be able to assist you in finding out more information about your area of interest.
We have an extensive collection of books and journals available at the Caird Library for personal research, including free on-site access to ancestry.com. See Library and collections enquiries.
We regret that we are not able to answer enquiries relating to astronomy, space and time. Telephone, email or written enquiries will be referred back to the website.
