Termpet is a Tamagotchi for the terminal, written in ANSI C with ncurses. You hatch a pet from a form, its hunger, happiness and health tick away in real time, and it lives in a save file under ~/.termpet/saves/ so you can quit and come back to it later.
Menus and forms in ncurses
The main menu offers new game, load game and exit. New game is an ncurses form where you fill in the pet's attributes before it hatches; load game is an ncurses menu built from whatever save files are in the saves directory. Both come from the form and menu extension libraries rather than being hand-drawn, which was the point of the project: learning how far the stock ncurses libraries go before you need your own widgets.
Gameplay
The game screen shows a constantly updating list of the pet's stats. In the current version the pet plays itself: the actions (feed, play, medicine) run automatically on a timer so the stat model could be tuned without a UI for it. The action menu where you choose what to do is the next piece. Press q to save and quit.
